Supporting a Mission That Changes Lives
The Memusi Foundation approached us with a clear vision: they had developed a proven model for educational development in Kenya, but they needed a digital platform that could effectively share their story with supporters, partners, and the communities they serve.
Founded on the principle that quality education is every child's right to escape poverty, the Memusi Foundation operates primarily in Magadi, Kajiado County, Kenya. Their work encompasses everything from building beacon schools to delivering healthcare programs, supporting over 8,000 children across 42 primary schools and Early Childhood Development centres. The breadth of their impact, from reducing school absence rates from 44% to 0% through their female hygiene programmes to reaching over 12,000 people through worming and vitamin initiatives, needed a digital platform that could effectively tell these interconnected stories.
When Success Has Many Moving Parts
Unlike many charities that focus on single interventions, Memusi operates through five distinct pillars: Outreach, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Building Communities, and Teacher Development. Each pillar generates its own success metrics while contributing to the Foundation's three core impact measures: increased grades, reduced absence, and increased enrolment of girls.
The challenge was creating a digital architecture that could present this complexity without overwhelming visitors while making the case for why each intervention matters. Potential donors, partner organisations, and community stakeholders each needed different information presented in accessible ways.
We spent considerable time understanding their impact measurement approach; the "Impact Bonds" they create between the Foundation, communities, and schools. This annual review system needed to be reflected in how the website presented their accountability and transparency to supporters.
Content Strategy for International Development
The content strategy had to balance several competing needs. The website needed to inspire potential donors while providing serious accountability to existing supporters. It had to appeal to international audiences while respecting the Kenyan communities at the heart of their work. Most importantly, it needed to present educational development work in ways that non-specialists could understand and connect with emotionally.
We developed a narrative structure that leads visitors through the Foundation's logic: why quality education matters, how their five-pillar approach addresses root causes rather than symptoms, and what measurable impact looks like in practice. Case studies and success stories were woven throughout to show real-world outcomes rather than just programmatic descriptions.
The challenge of presenting work across multiple locations and partnerships required careful information architecture. Visitors needed to understand how the Teacher Resource Centre connects to computer installation projects, how healthcare initiatives support educational outcomes, and how community empowerment through adult education strengthens the entire ecosystem.
Technical Platform for Growth and Transparency
We built a platform designed to support the Foundation's commitment to transparency and continuous growth. The content management system allows easy updates as new programs launch and annual impact reports become available. Integration capabilities support the Foundation's partnerships with organizations like Maa Healthcare Initiative, Camara Technology, and Impact Teachers.
The website architecture anticipated the Foundation's expansion beyond Magadi, providing structure for additional locations and programs while maintaining focus on their core mission. Document management capabilities support their research and policy influence work, allowing easy access to reports and findings that inform broader educational policy in Kenya.
Results and Ongoing Mission Support
The digital platform successfully supports the Foundation's multi-faceted mission by providing a professional hub for their diverse stakeholder communications. The clear presentation of their impact measurement and accountability systems builds confidence with supporters while the compelling storytelling attracts new advocates for their work.
Most importantly, the website serves the Foundation's ultimate goal: demonstrating that sustainable educational development requires comprehensive, community-centred approaches. By effectively communicating their sophisticated methodology and proven results, the platform helps build support for scaling this model to reach even more children across Kenya.
We're currently in the process of helping the Memusi Foundation transition to Odoo ERP to better manage their multi-location operations and complex program reporting requirements.
